KiiS SpainThe KIIS two-week program in Segovia, Spain exposes students to Spanish culture and history by offering courses that are part of the General Education offerings for colleges and universities throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. Set in the foothills of the Guadarrama Mountains, Segovia has a visible history that dates back to pre-Roman times. Segovia’s 1st-century aqueduct is a living lesson on art and history. Its majestic cathedral was the last Gothic structure built in Spain, and the Alcazar, the fortress/castle, sits like the prow of an imaginary ship against the background of blue Segovia skies. Segovia also offers a weekly open-air market, picturesque plazas and cafes, a lively nightlife and frequent cultural events.

Summer 2019 Course Offerings:

PSY 220 Introduction to Developmental Psychology
SPAN 105 Introduction to Hispanic Culture

Note: All courses are taught in English and are part of the General Education or Core Curriculum requirements for all institutions in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. No Spanish is required (all instruction is in English). Students with some language proficiency may be able to improve their knowledge of Spanish culture as well as their speaking skills through interactions with their homestay family and local people. Each student must select one three-credit hour course. Course credit will be issued by Western Kentucky University. The WKU Registrar will transfer your grade to your home institution approximately 12 weeks after the completion of the program. We encourage all students - long before KIIS program departure - to contact their Academic Advisor, Department Head, and/or the Study Abroad Office to determine the credit equivalencies at their home institution (that is, confirm ahead of time with your college or university how your desired KIIS courses will count towards your major and/or overall degree requirements). Course offerings are subject to change according to enrollment.
