Program Description:

KIIS DotPortugal

The program is based on the campus of the Universidade do Minho in the city of Braga in northern Portugal.  Students who select the “Recreation and Tourism of Portugal” course will study how the municipality of Braga has made its outdoor recreational spaces into a vibrant part of the lives of its residents and attractions for visitors.  Field trips and excursions include nearby cities (Guimarães and Porto), a camping trip in the country’s largest national park, and following the Portuguese branch of the Camino de Santiago, one of Western Europe’s most visited outdoor cultural and natural attractions.

Students in the program’s Intermediate Portuguese course (which is designed so that high-intermediate students of Spanish comfortably may enroll as well) offer students an immersion experience in an increasingly important world language as well as a basic familiarity with the Portuguese roots of Lusophone cultures across the globe. Students will experience first-hand the cultural legacy of the period of globalization that began with the first Portuguese voyages to Asia, Africa, and the Americas.  Students in the Intermediate Portuguese course participate on all program excursions described above.
